The Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro we tested retails for $99.95 and offered consistent video quality, good sound, and a quick, easy installation. Adjusting the camera can be tricky as the monitor claws don't lock in place and the camera doesn't swivel from side to side. The camera feels fragile and I don't recommend keeping it in your laptop bag without using the provided carrying case. The camera's negatives are few, but worth considering. I strongly recommend wearing a headset if you use the camera in public. You can reduce or eliminate the echo with a headset or the echocanceling feature of many VC systems. The camera's built-in microphone is adequate, but it does allow an echo. Performance was best on a LAN, but video and sound were surprisingly good over cable, DSL and WLAN. We achieved the smoothest video and sound using the QuickCam for Notebooks Pro at 320x240 with Polycom's PVX commercial software. We tested the camera with both free and commercial VC software, as well as a browser-based system.
